Software licensing

MiSTer Companion Desktop and MiSTer Companion Mobile use different licensing models.

Desktop app

GNU General Public License v2.0

MiSTer Companion Desktop is free and open-source software released under the GNU General Public License version 2.0.

What you may do

You may use, study, modify, copy, and redistribute MiSTer Companion Desktop. GPL-2.0 also permits commercial use, including selling copies or charging for related services.

When distributing it

If you distribute the original app or a modified version, recipients must retain the same GPL rights and receive access to the corresponding source code under GPL-2.0.

Notices and modifications

Existing copyright and license notices must be preserved. Modified files should clearly state that they were changed and include the date of the change.

No warranty

MiSTer Companion Desktop is provided without warranty. The complete GPL-2.0 license is the legally controlling document.

Mobile app

Proprietary commercial software

This GPL-2.0 license applies only to MiSTer Companion Desktop.

MiSTer Companion Mobile

The Android and iOS versions of MiSTer Companion are proprietary, closed-source applications distributed as paid software. The GPL-2.0 permissions and redistribution terms described above do not apply to the mobile app.
